You’re Not Broken: Why So Many Women Feel “Off” While Carrying Everything

Mar 20, 2026 | Midwife Life

There is a woman I see over and over again in my work.

She looks like she has it all together.

She is showing up for her family.
She is doing the workouts.
She is drinking the water.
She is holding everything together.

And yet, she feels exhausted.
Disconnected.
Off in a way she can’t quite explain.

When she finally says it out loud, it usually sounds like this:

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

But what I want every woman to understand is this:

You are not broken.
Your body is communicating.

In this week’s episode of The Midwife Life, I sat down with Courtney Smith of Maternally Nourished to talk about what is really happening beneath the surface for so many women.

What we see again and again is not a lack of discipline or effort.

It is depletion.

Chronic stress, lack of support, postpartum recovery that was never fully honored, the invisible mental load, and the constant pressure to keep going all take a physiological toll on the body.

And often, women are trying to fix that by doing more.

More discipline.
More restriction.
More effort.

But healing rarely starts there.

It starts with support.
With nourishment.
With slowing down enough to actually listen.

This conversation is an invitation to begin there.

Not with fixing yourself.
But with understanding yourself.

And from that place, everything begins to shift.
